Well, we know Dmitry plays fetch. He comes when he's called and wags his tail like a dog. But, did you know he can Macarena?

I'm Still Here Having Fun with Paint
I'm on the computer less and less these days, but that's because I don't want to get paint on my key board! Here's a peek at what I've been up to, and a peek at my biggest fan, Dmitry, the art cat (I'm sure he was more interested in the bird outside the window than in me.).
Happy Wednesday!

Dmitry, the Russian Blue Retriever?
So, I've shared some of my cat, Dmitry's eccentricities here before ... his ability to fetch, his hoarding of old Fisher Price Sesame Street characters, his destruction of my Christmas decorations, and why he is crazy. Today's story really has me concerned.
My son came down with his first cold of the year. We dug our way out of the house yesterday to get him some cold medicine yesterday. I bought the kind that loosens everything up for him. Anyway....if you have or care for kids, you know the liquid medicines come with a special measuring cup (we always used a spoon...I wonder if that means we didn't get enough or if we got too much?). This particluar brand measures in mL, rather than tsp, so the cup is special for this brand of medicine.
So, I'm at the computer this morning, doing my makeup and reading email and I realized that I left the medicine bottle up in my bathroom, so I sent Matt to get the bottle so I could give him some of the medicine before school. He returned a few minutes later with the bottle, but without the cup. Well, he's nine, so I figured, the missing cup was just a slight - he probably didn't realize that I would need the cup. So, I asked him to go get the cup and he say, "I didn't see one". Well, we already tease him for having "little boy vision", so I realize that I have to go find it myself.
One second later, something fell from the staircase landing right above my computer and landed with a dull CLINK on the keyboard. I picked it up and .... it was the cup. THE CUP! The goofy mL measuring cup literally fell from the sky, onto my keyboard. Stunned, I look up and there is Dmitry, sitting on the landing, head between the posts on the staircase above me.

Ok, following me?

No kidding.
For real.
The crazy cat RETRIEVED the cup.
This cat is SOMETHING!
Good kitty!

Have you ever??? Dmitry Style
We recently discovered our crazy cat, Dmitry has a talent...he fetches, just like a dog! I tried to capture the silliness of a cat running after a fuzzy ball and bringing it back only to get it again, but you'll just have to imagine the crazy scramble to run down the hall to get it (the floor is wood, so there is a lot of sliding and slamming into things). He enjoys this game so much, he stalks Ana to play with him.

Same Chaos, Different Day or Finding Susan
Remember my little story of the kitty chaos at Christmastime? Well, that's not a special holiday feature. Oh no. This is an on-going game. Seems there are special "traps" in my house for little things like legos and kitty toys. One such place is beneath my stove. There is a nice little 2 inch gap from the stove to the floor which, for some time, has been the home of the items seen pictured above. Yes, that's right. Much like Sid in Toy Story, my sweet Dmitry cat is an enemy to toys. This is his story. This is his collection.
A few nights ago, Matt and Ana decided to see just what was trapped beneath the stove. Naturally, I supervised and the stove was off. Armed with a flashlight and a stick, the kids uncovered a treasure trove of goodies.
In the end, we found 10 balls, 6 lego clone trooper helmets, a letter die, many legos, and the Fisher Price "Susan" character from the Fisher Price Sesame Street playset that I had when I was a kid....you remember Gordon's wife Susan, right? Given I didn't grow up in this house, finding Susan was the most interesting of our discoveries that night.
The biggest challenge? Keeping Dmitry away from the uncovered treasures long enough to shoot the picture!
Hope you find something you didn't know you lost!

Deck the Halls with Kitty Chaos!
Wow, time flies. Every time I think of writing here, I find another thing to do, or my computer is so slow, it’s time for bed before I get a chance to write.
The good news is, the computer situation has been worked out…a newer, faster model is being set up for me soon---I’m really excited! My computer has served us well for the past 7 years and is going to spend her retirement playing games and doing homework with my kids. No more trudging through the Internet for the old gal. Enjoy your retirement HP Media Center! I’m not going to be able to use the slow computer excuse for much longer.
Since we last chatted, there has been an update on the ornament situation. You’ll recall I used some glue to repair a few beloved ornaments a few weeks back. Well, 2 Fridays ago, when I came home from work, I found the cats had Decked the Halls with Kitty Chaos! This came on the heels of the cats knocking over the Advent calendar and helping my dog, Jack, to enjoy day 23, the same week. Here’s our Advent calendar:
When Friday came along, things got a little feistier, it seems. Since I wasn’t there to see it, I imagine it went something like this.
1. Mom leaves the house.
6. Melanie freaks out and runs into the living room, where the Christmas tree stands, as yet, undisturbed.
7. Dmitry does some maneuvers ala the Matrix and crashes into my jester Santa. One casualty.
9. There is some kitty “I’m telling” meowing.
10. Everyone goes back to sleep.
Or, this is what could have happened:
1. Dmitry is bored. He is enticed by the pretty, glittery ornaments and plays a game to see how many he can knock off before I get home.
Like I said, I can’t be too sure what happened. You be the judge, I’ll go get the glue.

3. Dmitry gets feisty and smacks Jack in the head.
4. There is some running up and down the stairs.
5. Jack and Dmitry crash land on Melanie, who has been watching, bored, from the table.Melanie

8. Dmitry, knowing all his good deeds up to this point will be forgotten because of the beheaded Santa, runs into the tree, dislodging several ornaments, including James Dean, who ends up, face down in the carpet.9. There is some kitty “I’m telling” meowing.

5 Reasons Why my Cat Dmitry is Crazy.....

I thought having a kitten would be fun, certainly a new experience, but as I get to know Dmitry, my 4 month old Russian Blue kitten, I've grown to think I might have a crazy cat on my hands. (My friend, Scott, summed it up best by saying, "He's kind of a jerk". - true).
1. There is no such thing as peaceful sleep in my house anymore. I wake up every morning around 4 am to Dmitry licking my eyelids. Now, I'm not sure what is so tasty on my eyelids, but the morning cannot start without this creepy bath.
2. Dmitry runs like he's late for a train when he sees me go into the bathroom. As I unroll the toilet paper, he never fails to grab it out of my hands. This must be the warm up to the "unroll all the toilet paper in all 3 bathrooms" game he plays while I'm at work.
3. Awww....cute kitty does figure 8's between my legs while I'm getting dressed......OUCH!! Damn it! Not cute!
4. Then, I hear Matt screaming at "Meat" as he's affectionately known. Seems attack cat is guarding the stairs and won't let Matt go down. I must escort Matt past the cat.
5. Dangerous kitty game: try to eat the dog's food while the dog is eating. Jack the dog is tall and has a raised food bowl. Meat perches himself on Jack's bowl and tries to eat the dogs food. Good, patient Jack has not killed Dmitry yet.
So, for now, those are my 5 reasons.....I'm sure I'll come up with more, but I have to go see what just crashed in the other room.....
